Zachary is the first artist to create a sculptural multiple for the RA Editions. His edition, Asklepios (2014), inspired by a bust originally seen by him in the RA Schools’ historic life drawing room, is the first to use 3D printing technology. The bust was captured digitally and the resulting form was manipulated by Zachary before being printed using rapid prototyping technology. The work was then cast in Jesmonite and has an edition size of 12. The work explores the blurring boundaries between reality and digitisation; amalgamating histories and notions of social progress through materiality and contemporary technology. Asklepios, the Greek god of healing, questions familiarity and tradition in a complex age.
Zachary's RA Edition, follows in the footsteps of artists such as Tracy Emin and Grayson Perry, with the profits from the sale of Asklepios, going towards financially supporting current students in the Royal Academy Schools.
The RA Editions initiative has published around 40 original works by Royal Academicians including Gary Hume, Chris Orr and Phillip King, as well as RA Schools’ graduates such as Pio Abad, Blue Firth and Ha Young Kim.
